Special Areas

Students in the elementary school follow a six-day special schedule. During the six-day cycle, students attend art, music, computer, and library one time, and physical education two times for 40 minutes each.

Art

Students create artwork using 21st Century skills, as well as practice making art through traditional methods such as: drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, etc. Students are encouraged to explore their own creativity in an environment that encourages, as well as fosters, diverse thinking. Our program introduces the elements of art (line, shape, space, value, color, form, and texture) to the young art student, and challenges the students to identify them in their artwork.

Library

The Red Jacket Elementary School’s library mission is to inspire curiosity, support learning, teach research and information skills, and promote the love of reading. We have a large collection of books and magazines for all ages as well as 24/7 access to a wealth of e-resources and online research databases to give students the ability to practice 21st Century learning skills. This 21st Century learner does not simply accept things at face value, but rather questions, explores, and investigates to deepen their own understanding and solve problems. They do not simply memorize things, they figure things out. They know how to learn.
Students are encouraged to be:

  • a Thinker - Using inquiry to build understanding and create new knowledge
  • an Explorer - Pursuing personal and aesthetic growth
  • a Citizen - Demonstrating social responsibility.

Our curriculum provides opportunities for our students to grow physically, socially, and emotionally. Students are provided an environment that focuses on trying their best, positive sportsmanship, and being respectful. Red Jacket Elementary School’s Physical Education program provides students with opportunities to learn healthy habits and have fun!
