UPK Information
Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) registration at Red Jacket Elementary is now open for the 2025-2026 school year. UPK is a state-funded program that focuses on readiness skills and provides early learning experiences for eligible students. The full-day program is Monday through Friday from 8:35 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. and follows the District calendar. Transportation is provided at no cost. However, due to car seat requirements, three-year-old students eligible for UPK need to be transported by a family member.
All children born between December 2, 2020 - December 1, 2021, residing within the Manchester-Shortsville Central School District, are eligible for UPK at Red Jacket Elementary for the 2025-2026 school year. Any child who is eligible for kindergarten is not eligible for UPK.
Kindergarten/New Student Information
Any child that turns five years of age on or before December 1, 2025, is eligible to register for kindergarten. Kindergarten registration forms for the 2025-2026 school year are due March 10, 2025.
If your child is currently enrolled in the UPK program at Red Jacket Elementary, they will be automatically registered for kindergarten. Please note that New York Compulsory Education Law 3205 states that children who turn six years of age on or before December 1, 2025, are required to enroll in school.
All new, incoming students (not attending UPK) must complete a mandatory screening process, which includes both the parent/guardian and the child. This kindergarten screening date is scheduled for Tuesday, May 27, 2025. Families will receive a letter with the assigned time for their child’s screening, which will be approximately 1 hour in length.
EVIDENCE OF IMMUNIZATIONS & PHYSICAL:
In accordance with the New York State Public Health Law, the District must also receive evidence that your child has been immunized in accordance with the New York State Department of Health Immunization Bureau’s Immunization Requirements for School Entrance/Attendance. These records will be necessary to ensure your child’s continued attendance. Additionally, please provide us with records of any recent physical examination your child has received. New York State mandates that each new student entering a public school is required to have a physical examination upon entering the District. A physical completed no more than twelve months before the first day of the school year in question will meet this requirement.
If you have any questions with respect to the foregoing, please do not hesitate to contact Kristen Liberty at (585) 289-9647 (Monday-Thursday 7:30 am-2:30 pm).
Very truly yours,
Christopher Barnard
Superintendent of Schools
